I'm Alex, a web developer living near London, England. When I'm not working in my day job for the police, I'm probably either building cool things with Ruby, going snowboarding, or drinking whisky.
I've been spending some time learning CoffeeScript, a neat ruby-style language that compiles down to JavaScript. I decided to put it to use over the Easter weekend, and created a little Word Search Maker. Have a play, it's quite fun!
Back in January I finished and released a very, very rough and ready version of Loves You Lots. I ran it past a few friends and family and have gotten some good feedback. Top of the list is creating an attractive default message theme – the one at the moment is pretty awful! Nonetheless, it was good to get a first version of the site off my list of ideas and into real life.
I haven't done much work on it since then, as I've been a bit distracted by my set of GeoData sites: US Cities List, UK Towns List, and UK Postcodes List. Mainly I've been improving the data quality and automating some of the steps involved in keeping the data up-to-date. I've also been looking into releasing similar datasets for other countries – and have just published a list of cities and towns in Canada and one for towns in Australia.
